When he signed as a free agent, Jarkko Ruutu brought a physical edge to the Penguins and made the team tougher to play against.

He finished the regular season as the team leader in penalty minutes with 125. He also added seven goals and nine assists in 81 games in Pittsburgh. He registered an even or better plus/minus rating in 18-straight games from Dec. 1 to Jan. 9.

Of his seven goals scored in 2006-07, two of them were game-winning tallies.

He was selected to play for Finland at the IIHF World Championship tournament in Moscow. He had one assist and 29 penalty minutes in nine games and helped lead the Finns to the silver medal.

2005-06: Ruutu comes to the Penguins in 2006-07 after a successful 2005-06 season with Vancouver. He set career highs in games played (82), goals (10), assists (7) and points (17). He ranked second on the Canucks in hits with 134.

An intense, hard-working winger, Ruutu won the Canucks Unsung Hero award, as voted by the fans, for the first time in his career last season.

On the international level, Ruutu earned two medals. He helped Team Finland capture a silver medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. He followed that up with a bronze medal at the 2006 World Championship.

2004-05: Spent the year playing in Finland for HIFK Helsinki…scored 10 goals and added 18 assists in 50 games…tallied 215 penalty minutes…had no points and 41 penalty minutes in three playoff games.
