How much does it cost to participate in PensPoints?
PensPoints is free of charge.
What if I don't have a smartphone?
PensPoints is a mobile fan loyalty program. Currently only iOS and Android platforms are supported. If you do not have an iOS or Android smartphone with a camera you will not be able to participate.
Where do I download the app?
You can download the app by clicking here for iPhone or here for Android. You can also search for "PensPoints" in the App Store or on Google Play.
What are QR Codes?
QR codes are 2-dimensional bar codes that have information encoded in them. The codes can be "decoded" by scanning them with special QR code reader apps.
How do I scan codes?
The PensPoints app has a QR code reader built into it. Open the app and press the "Scan or Enter" button. This will activate your phone's camera. Position the camera over the QR code and it will be automatically scanned.
How do I earn points?
You earn points by doing fan activities that you probably do anyways, like attending Penguins game, listening to game broadcasts on the radio and making concessions purchases. The full list of current point activities can always be found by visiting this webpage.
Where do I find the codes?
Game Attendance - code printed inside of IceTime Magazine
Attend Miller Lite Night - code printed on table tents or distributed via handouts
Waiting List Bonus - code printed on postcard mailer
Concession Purchase - code printed on receipt
Merchandise Purchase - code printed on receipt
Attend Post Game Show - keyword displayed on TV sets
Listen to Radio Broadcast - keyword spoken during radio broadcasts
How long are codes valid for?
Most codes are valid only during the hours of the game that they are related to. For instance, IceTime magazine will have a code in it each game. You must scan the code during the game in order to get credit for attending. ROOT SPORTS Pregame Show codes expire at the conclusion of the pregame show. ROOT SPORTS Postgame Show codes expire at the conclusion of the postgame show.
How do I cash in my points?
PensPoints is unique in that you don't cash in your points for prizes. As you accumulate points you will cross reward thresholds. Every 100 point increment is a new reward threshold (100 points, 200 points, 300 points, etc.). Reward vouchers will be automatically mailed to your house as soon as you hit cross each 100 point threshold. It's that simple. The updated rewards list can always be found on this webpage.
How do I scan a code from the radio?
Keywords can be used to collect points in instances where scanning a code isn't possible, such as listening to a radio broadcasts. When you hear the keyword hit the "Scan or Enter" button in the app. Click the "Enter a Code" tab and type the keyword in.
What is the leaderboard?
The leaderboard shows which fans have collected the most points for the current month and season overall. Leaderboard prizes will be given to the fan who collects the most points during each prize period.
What are instant win nights?
Occasionally special Miller Lite Nights will be held at select Pittsburgh-area bars. Fans will collect 25 points for attending and have the chance to instantly win prizes. Click here for the lastest event listings.
How do I know how many points I have?
Pressing the "My Points" button on the app will show how many points you have collected towards the next 100 point benchmark. It will also show how many total points you have collected for the season.
Why did my point total reset after I hit 100?
You earn rewards every time you hit a 100 point benchmark. The meter on the "My Points" page show how much progress you have made towards the next reward. When you cross a 100 point threshold that meter will reset to 0. However, your overall point total for the season will not reset.
What happens to my points at the end of the season?
All points reset to zero after June 30th, 2013.
