Team of the Week - Arctic Foxes Hockey Association
Dan Timko - April 12, 2011

The Arctic Foxes Hockey Association is located at the RMU Island Sports Center on Neville Island.  In 2010-2011 the Arctic Foxes Hockey Association hosted twenty different teams with over 325 families involved.  With three mite teams, 5 squirt teams, 5 pee wee teams, 4 bantam teams, and 3 midget teams, ice time is hard to come by at the RMU Island Sports Center.

“In lieu of the growth of the amateur hockey in Pittsburgh, our organization is extremely optimistic with the quality of play in the Pittsburgh area.” Said Mark Zukowski who has been involved with the AFHA since his two sons began playing ice hockey.  “We expect the number of teams to remain consistent to what they have been.  This is a direct result of ice limitations in our facility.  We could easily add 4-6 teams if ice was not an issue.”

The AFHA does all it can to provide amateur hockey players the best instruction at all levels with a reasonable cost.  While it is important to learn things like team work and perseverance, the primary goal is for the players to make friends and to have fun.  Just like many of the other youth hockey associations, the AFHA relies on the goodwill of others to be successful.

“The Arctic Foxes Hockey Association is blessed to have a volunteer base of parents, coaches, manager and a board of directors who are second to none.” Mark said.  “They are the foundation of our success.”
