Penguins Alumni Support Local ACHIEVA Organization

On August 25, 2008 members of the Pittsburgh Penguins Alumni Association hit the links for the ACHIEVA organization.

Former goalie J.S. Aubin and former forwards Pierre Larouche and Francois Leroux took part in the 10th Annual Million Dollar Golf Outing to benefit ACHIEVA and helped to raise $73,500.00.

ACHIEVA is Western PA’s largest provider of comprehensive services and support for children and adults with disabilities and their families.  Each year, approximately 7,000 individuals and their families go to ACHIEVA for assistance and support.

Over 30 former Pittsburgh Penguins players, coaches and general managers will gather for the 11th Annual Penguins Alumni Charity Golf Classic on Monday, August 11 at Valley Brook Country Club in McMurray, PA.  Golfers can register online or through the mail.   Each foursome will be accompanied by one Penguins alumnus as they compete in the scramble-style tournament for prizes...More...
  Penguins Alumni Association 2008 Scholarship
The Penguins Alumni Association awards a scholarship annually to a deserving high school student-athlete. The $2,000 scholarship is co-sponsored by the NHL Alumni Association and is awarded to a Western PA high school senior for academics and superior participation with his/her school’s ice hockey program. Local alumni members comprise the selection committee. Application deadline was April 30, 2008.

At 17, Mario Faubert left the safety of his home in Quebec with the dream of playing professional hockey, and he did just that. Faubert left Quebec on a hockey scholarship for St. Louis University in 1972. He played there for two years, before the Penguins selected him in the 1974 NHL Entry Draft.
