Mellon Arena

Mellon Arena is home to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The arena is currently the oldest one in use in the NHL, completed in 1961 at a cost of $22 million. The arena was not originally intended for sports, but primarily to host the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera. It was built with a retractable dome made of six stainless steel panels, five of which would shift under the sixth in two and a half minutes when the weather permitted. Mellon Arena currently has a capacity of over 17,000 seats.


Parking

Take 79S to 279S to 579S, follow signs to Mellon Arena (Veterans/Liberty Bridge), take 6th Avenue/Mellon Arena exit, turn left at light to Mellon Arena.

From the East

Take 22W to 376W (Monroeville), through Squirrel Hill Tunnel, take Grant Street exit to 7th Avenue, turn right to Mellon Arena.

From the West

Take Route 22E to Parkway (279E), through Ft. Pitt Tunnel, bear right (towards Monroeville) and take first exit on left (Grant Street) to 7th Avenue, turn right to Mellon Arena.

From the South

Take 79N to Parkway (279E toward Pittsburgh, through Ft. Pitt Tunnel, bear right (towards Monroeville) and take first exit on left (Grant Street) to 7th Avenue, turn right to Mellon Arena.

From the Airport

Take Rt. 60 to Rt 22/30E to Parkway (279E), through Ft. Pitt Tunnel, bear right (towards Monroeville) and take first exit on left (Grant Street) to 7th Avenue, turn right to Mellon Arena. Call 412-472-3525 for airport information.
