Pittsburgh-Area Schools Support Penguins with Student Signs & Essays

The Pittsburgh Penguins are encouraging all elementary, middle, intermediate & charter schools in Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh to embrace the Penguins quest for the Stanley Cup by participating in the team’s “Students for Stanley” sign contest.  In addition, high school students are encouraged to enter the “Students for Stanley” essay contest.

With the Pittsburgh Penguins’ advancement into the Stanley Cup Final, a decision has been made to extend the “Students for Stanley” contests until Thursday, June 4.

“Students for Stanley” – Grades 1-8 –  Sign Contest Rules

1.   Each school will be judged on a video presentation of the students’ creative use of signs and artwork displayed on school property with an emphasis on creativity, design and school spirit.

2.   All signs should reflect the students’ school spirit as well as their support for the Penguins on their quest for the Stanley Cup.

3.   Each school must submit their entry by uploading the video to www.youtube.com.  Once your video is uploaded, submit the link to here.

4.   All entries (video links) must be submitted by Thursday, June 4 at 5:00 pm.   The winning schools will be announced by Friday, June 12.

5.   The Grand Prize winning school will receive a $5,000 donation from the Penguins' organization for a pre-determined in-school student program.  The second place school will receive $3,000 and third place will receive $2,000.

“Students for Stanley” – Grades 9 -12 –  Essay Contest Rules

1.   The core of the Penguins’ brand is Energy, Drive and Innovation.  Students must demonstrate how the Penguins use these attributes to lead to success (on or off the ice).

2.   Each student essay shall be 200 words or less.  Students are encouraged to let their imagination lead them through the creative process.

3.   Each school administrator will review all entries and submit one entry per grade level.

4.   All entries must be submitted by Thursday, June 4 at 5:00 pm.  The winning schools will be announced Friday, June 12.

5.   The Penguins will select three (3) overall Grand Prize winners for each grade level (grades 9-12).  Each grand prize winner will receive two (2) tickets to a Penguins 2009-2010 regular season home game.
