Penguins Recall Forward Oskar Sundqvist

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Oskar Sundqvist from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

Sundqvist, 21, is in his first full season in North America, playing 39 AHL games for WBS, tallying five goals, 11 assists and 16 points.

The 6-foot-3, 209-pound Sundqvist joined WBS last season during its playoff run, skating in one postseason contest. Earlier in that year, Sundqvist attended his first NHL training camp with Pittsburgh in September ‘14, finishing second on the team with three points (2G-1A) during the exhibition campaign.

Before coming to North America permanently this year, the Boden, Sweden native skated two-plus seasons with Skelleftea in the Swedish Elite League. During the 2014-15 campaign, he established career highs in goals (9) and points (19) in 41 games.

Pittsburgh’s third-round (81st overall) selection in 2012, Sundqvist helped Skelleftea capture its second-straight league championship in 2014, scoring four goals and six points in 13 playoff games.

Sundqvist scored two goals in seven games for Sweden at the 2014 World Junior Championship, helping his country capture a silver medal.
