The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Zach Sill to a one-year contract, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

Sill’s contract is a two-way deal worth $550,000 at the NHL level.

Sill, 26, played NHL games for the first time in his career in 2013-14, appearing in 20 regular-season contests beginning with his NHL debut on Nov. 16 at New Jersey.

The 6-foot, 202-pound Sill averaged 10:47 minutes per game with Pittsburgh, including 1:54 shorthanded minutes. He ranked second among team forwards who played at least 20 games with an average of 2.85 hits per game.

Sill, a native of Truro, Nova Scotia, skated in 18 regular-season games for the Penguins’ top minor-league affiliate, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), where he totaled three goals, three assists and six points while serving as an alternate captain.

Sill helped WBS reach the AHL’s Eastern Conference Finals for the second-straight season, contributing three points (1G-2A) in 17 postseason contests.

Sill, who originally joined the organization as an undrafted free agent, has 73 points (33G-40A) and is plus-22 in 277 career AHL games with WBS and 14 points (7G-7A) in 60 AHL playoff games. His best AHL season came in 2010-11 when he recorded career highs in games played (80), goals (11), assists (19), points (30) and rating (plus-16).
