Penguins Re-Sign Forward Nick Drazenovic

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Nick Drazenovic to a one-year contract, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

Drazenovic’s contract is a two-way deal worth $550,000 at the NHL level.

Drazenovic, 27, played the majority of the 2013-14 regular-season with Pittsburgh’s top minor-league affiliate, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL). He also suited up for one regular-season game with Pittsburgh on Jan. 15 vs. Washington.

The 6-foot, 192-pound Drazenovic finished the regular season ranked second on WBS in both assists (29) and points (42). He added four points (1G-3A) in nine AHL playoff games.

A native of Prince George, British Columbia, Drazenovic has appeared in 12 career NHL games with St. Louis, Columbus and Pittsburgh since being originally drafted by the Blues in the sixth round (171st overall) of the 2005 NHL Draft.

Drazenovic has played seven seasons at the AHL level with Springfield, Peoria and WBS, totaling 296 points (113G-183A) in 444 career regular-season games. He has reached double digits in goals all seven seasons, and he has surpassed the 40-point plateau five times. Drazenovic has 10 points (4G-6A) in 26 career AHL postseason games.

Prior to turning pro Drazenovic, played five seasons with the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 2002-07, registering 77 goals, 137 assists and 214 points in 281 regular-season games.
