The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Blake Comeau to a one-year contract, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

The deal has an average annual value of $700,000.

Comeau, 28, played with the Columbus Blue Jackets during the 2013-14 campaign, registering five goals, 11 assists and 16 points. He established a career high with 197 hits.

The 6-foot-1, 202-pound forward had his best season with the New York Islanders in 2010-11, establishing career highs with 24 goals, 22 assists and 46 points with five power-play tallies and three game-winners in 77 games.

Comeau, who hails from Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, has played in 422 career NHL regular-season games with the NY Islanders, Calgary and Columbus, tallying 72 goals, 92 assists and 164 points.

Originally drafted by the Islanders in the second round (47th overall) of the 2004 NHL Draft, Comeau was a member of several championship squads during his junior career, winning Western Hockey League (WHL) playoff titles with the Kelowna Rockets in 2003 and ’05, and the 2004 Memorial Cup championship. Comeau also played for Canada’s gold-medal winning entry at the 2006 World Junior Championship.
