Penguins Sign Forward Josh Archibald to an Entry-Level Contract

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Josh Archibald to a three-year entry-level contract, it was announced today by interim general manager Jason Botterill.

The contract will begin with the 2014-15 season and run through the 2016-17 campaign.

Archibald, 21, was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as the NCAA’s top college hockey player this season after ranking third in the nation with 29 goals.

Archibald, who led both the University of Nebraska-Omaha and the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) in scoring with 43 points (29G-14A), was named the NCHC Player of the Year, Forward of the Year and a member of the NCHC All-Conference First Team. He was also named an AHCA CCM First Team West All-American.

Following the season, the 5-foot-10, 181-pound Archibald joined Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an amateur tryout, tallying one goal in six AHL regular-season games.

Originally drafted by the Penguins in the sixth round (174th overall) in 2011, Archibald enjoyed three successful seasons at Nebraska-Omaha, improving his scoring totals each season. He finished his career with 58 goals, 36 assists and 94 points in 112 career contests.

During his freshman campaign in 2011-12, Archibald skated for Team USA at the 2012 World Junior Championships, notching two assists in six games.

Archibald’s father, Jim, was drafted by Minnesota in the seventh round (139th overall) of the 1981 NHL Draft and appeared in 16 NHL games for the North Stars.
