Penguins Fans Encouraged to Keep It Growing
Pittsburgh Penguins fans have raised over $22,000 to date in the team’s annual “Beard-A-Thon” campaign – and now there is more reason than ever to keep that total – along with those playoff beards – growing.

Pittsburgh Penguins fans have raised over $22,000 to date in the team’s annual “Beard-A-Thon” campaign – and now there is more reason than ever to keep that total – along with those playoff beards – growing.

The Penguins are encouraging fans with space on their face to get their beard on by participating in the team’s sixth annual “Beard-A-Thon” campaign. Starting Thursday, May 1 at noon through Monday, May 5 at 11:59 pm, registered participants will have the opportunity to win special prizes for their fundraising efforts. Those who raise $10 or more will have a chance to win a puck autographed by Mario Lemieux. Fans who raise $20 or more will have the chance to win a hat autographed by Mario Lemieux. And participants who raise $50 or more will have the chance to win a pair of tickets to an upcoming home playoff game! Click here for details and official rules.

This year’s program is proudly presented by SUPERCUTS and all proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the Mario Lemieux Foundation.

Fans who are growing playoff beards and have yet to register are encouraged to participate by enrolling online at www.beardathon.com/penguins. Participants can upload photos of their growth throughout the playoffs and ask friends, family and co-workers to pledge their beards. The Penguins will award prizes to the three beard growers who raise the most money for the charity. This year’s prizes include a team signed authentic helmet, an autographed Sidney Crosby jersey and free SUPERCUTS haircuts for a year.

Fans who are unwilling or unable to grow playoffs beards are invited to participate by supporting friends, family members or players who are growing beards. Craig Adams, Tanner Glass, James Neal and Brandon Sutter have volunteered to support the cause as well as Mario Lemieux.

Penguins’ fans have raised over $393,000 for the Mario Lemieux Foundation since the program’s inception in 2009.

The Mario Lemieux Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for cancer and neonatal research as well as Austin's Playroom Project, an initiative that creates sibling playrooms in medical facilities. Additional information about the Mario Lemieux Foundation is available at www.mariolemieux.org.
