Watch: Sidney Crosby Highlights
Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was named a finalist for the Hart Trophy, which is awarded ‘to the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team’ by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association (PHWA).

Crosby, who led the NHL this past season with 104 points, is looking to become the second Penguins player in the past three years to win the Hart Trophy, joining Evgeni Malkin, who won in 2011-12.

Crosby, whose 17-point victory in the scoring race over Anaheim’s Ryan Getzlaf represented the largest gap since Jaromir Jagr in 1998, won his first Hart Trophy in 2006-07 and was a runner-up for the award both last season and in 2009-10.

Crosby is hoping to give the Penguins the organization’s seventh Hart Trophy alongside titles already won by Mario Lemieux (3 times), Crosby, Malkin and Jagr.

In addition to leading the league in points for the second time in his career, Crosby finished with a NHL-best 68 assists, the first time he has paced the league in that category.

During a season that saw the Penguins suffer a NHL-leading 529 man-games lost due to injury, Crosby kept his club near the top of the league standings by contributing at least one point in 60 of the 80 games he played, during which the Penguins went 47-8-5 (.825 pct.). When Crosby was held scoreless, Pittsburgh went just 3-16-1 (.175 pct.).

Crosby, who was named Team MVP for the fifth time in his career, factored into 43 percent of Pittsburgh’s goals during the regular season (104 of 242), the highest percentage of any NHL player.

All NHL award winners will be announced at the league’s annual Awards Show, which will be held Wednesday, June 24 at 7 p.m. local time at the Encore Theater in Las Vegas. The awards will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network.
