Penguins Sign Forward Scott Wilson to an Entry-Level Contract

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Scott Wilson to a two-year entry-level contract, it was announced today by executive Vice President and general manager Ray Shero.

The contract will begin with the 2014-15 season and run through the 2015-16 campaign.

Wilson, 21, played the past three seasons with the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. This year, despite battling injuries, he totaled 19 points (7G-12A) and was plus-5 in 31 games, helping the River Hawks advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Drafted by the Penguins in the seventh round (209th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft, Wilson had produced back-to-back 38-point campaigns for UMass-Lowell prior to this year that included 16 goals and 22 assists both years.

The 5-foot-11, 184-pound Wilson skated in 109 career contests for the River Hawks, scoring 39 goals, 56 assists and 95 points while finishing plus-22.

In 2012-13, the Oakville, Ontario native helped lead the River Hawks into the Frozen Four played at CONSOL Energy Center. Wilson also starred during the Hockey East Tournament, earning All-Tournament Team honors after scoring the winning goal in the semifinal contest, and then assisting on the game-winning marker in the championship.

As a freshman in 2011-12, Wilson ranked second in the NCAA with a 1.03 point-per-game average. He went on to win Hockey East Rookie of the Year, was selected to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team and he won the New England Hockey Writers’ George C. Carens Rookie of the Year Award.
