Penguins Prospect Josh Archibald Named a Finalist for the Hobey Baker Award
Pittsburgh Penguins prospect forward Josh Archibald, a junior at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, was named one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award, which is presented to the NCAA\u2019s top player.

Pittsburgh Penguins prospect forward Josh Archibald, a junior at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, was named one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award, which is presented to the NCAA’s top player.

Archibald, who was selected by the Penguins in the sixth round (174th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft, has 29 goals in 37 games this season, the second-highest total among all NCAA players behind only Boston College’s Johnny Gaudreau (32).

The 5-foot-10, 181-pound Archibald led Nebraska-Omaha in scoring this season with 43 points (29G-14A) while establishing the school’s single-season goal-scoring record. Archibald also set a school record by notching two hat tricks.

A native of Brainerd, Minnesota, Archibald won his conference’s Player of the Week award on three occasions and he was selected as the league’s Player of the Month for February after leading the entire NCAA with 10 goals and 16 points.

The Top 10 list is compiled from balloting from all 59 Division I college hockey head coaches and by an on-line fan ballot. The Top Ten list now will be voted on by the 27-member Selection Committee and a second round of fan balloting to be held from March 20 – 30 to determine the Hobey Hat Trick of three finalists for this year’s Hobey Baker Award. The Hobey Hat Trick will be announced on April 2.

The Hobey Baker Award Announcement will come on Friday, April 11 at 6 p.m. ET from Philadelphia, Pa., the site of this year’s NCAA Frozen Four Championship.
