The Pittsburgh Penguins are pleased to announce Jake Worcester from Bethel Park, Brett Berner from North Hills, Jacob Miller from Penn Trafford and Connor Quinn from Quaker Valley as the four Highmark PIHL Players of the Month for February.

The Penguins organization and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield recognize high school players of the month four times each season.

Senior forward Jake Worcester had six points (4G-2A) in four games for the Bethel Park Blackhawks during the month of February. He led the Blackhawks to Bethel Park’s first division title in seven years. Three of Worcester’s four tallies were game-winning goals.

“I’m pretty impressed with everything the Penguins do as far as player of the month and having the Penguin Cup here,” Worcester said. “It makes everyone feel really special, you get to play at Consol. It’s a real honor to get this award and something to work for when you start the season.”

Senior forward Brett Berner had 18 points (6G-13A) for the North Hills Indians in their seven February games, with three of his six goals coming shorthanded. Berner is serving his third year as assistant captain for the Indians.

“It means a lot (to win this award). I’m always looking for recognition,” Berner said. “It’s always a good time. I like to include my family members, let them come out and see me. It’s just a real honor.”

Senior defenseman Jacob Miller of the Penn Trafford Warriors captained his team out of a four-game losing streak in February. To end the stretch, Miller recorded three assists in the Warriors’ 6-5 upset of then-No. 1 Peters Township. Miller ended the season with the most points (54) in the AAA division, as well as the most assists (31).

“It means a lot,” Miller said. “Just to come out here and be in front of everyone at CONSOL Energy Center and be noticed for how I played, it’s a huge honor. (I think) my leadership on the ice (helped me win the award); just going out and trying to help my team and do the best that I can. I score as much as possible.”

Sophomore forward Connor Quinn rounded out the month of February with 27 points (12G-15A) in six games for the Quaker Valley Quakers. Quinn had four goals in the Quakers’ 10-3 win over South Fayette on Feb. 24 and posted a hat trick in their 10-2 win over South Park on Feb. 21.

“I think the Penguins do a really good job involving (high school hockey) by having a player of month, showing up to games and obviously hosting the Penguin Cup,” Quinn said. “It shows that they really like to get involved in the area.”

Both Quinn and Worcester participated in the Penguins Cup hosted at CONSOL Energy Center on March 17.
