Penguins owner/legend Mario Lemieux was part of an official ribbon cutting to open the Red CARpet Charity Preview Gala, hosted by the Greater Pittsburgh Automobile Dealers Foundation at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Austin’s Playroom Project, an initiative of the Mario Lemieux Foundation.

“Mario and Nathalie are a great part of Pittsburgh,” Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto said. “It’s more than just writing a check. It’s giving your heart. I think that’s a part that really makes Pittsburgh love the Lemieux. It’s not about being seen. It’s about being part of the community.”

Mario and Nathalie were joined by Peduto, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Congressman Mike Kelly, Congressman Tim Murphy and Congressman Keith Rothfus in the ribbon cutting. Later the Mario Lemieux Foundation was presented with a check for $100,000 dollars.

“What an honor to stand next to Mario Lemieux and hold a red line in your hand as he’s cutting it,” Peduto said. “Season-ticket holder for four decades. It’s great when you can add hockey to great Pittsburgh traditions that help kids. It’s a hat trick.”
