A pair of Penguins – forward Jussi Jokinen and defenseman Olli Maatta – have been named to Team Finland’s roster for the 2014 Olympics to be held next month in Sochi, Russia.

Jokinen will be making his second Olympic appearance. He helped his Finnish squad capture the silver medal at the 2006 Turino Games.

Maatta will be playing in his first Olympics.

This season, Jokinen ranks fifth on the Penguins with 30 points (12G-18A) through 44 games. His 12 goals rank second among Finnish players behind Valtteri Filppula’s 16, and his 30 points place third among Finnish skaters.

Maatta has put together a solid rookie campaign, collecting 13 points (3G-10A) and posting a plus-3 while averaging 17:38 minutes in 43 games. Maatta’s 13 points are tied for the most among Finnish blueliners with Philadelphia’s Kimmo Timonen.

Both players have represented Finland internationally on several occasions.

Jokinen suited up for the Finns in five World Championships between 2005-12, winning bronze medals in ’06 and ’08. He also won a pair of bronze medals for Finland in the 2002 and ’03 World Junior Championships. Jokinen led the WJC with six goals in ’03.

Jokinen won a bronze medal with Finland at the 2001 World Under-18 Championships.

Maatta played for Finland in three straight World Junior Championships from 2011-13. In the 2011 tournament, he became the first 16 year old to play for the Finns at the WJC since 1998.

Maatta played in the 2011 World Under-18 Championships, collecting four points (1G-3A) while being named one of Finland’s ‘Top Three Players’ by the media.
