With just over a week until the second annual Three Rivers Classic begins, Robert Morris head coach Derek Schooley visited CONSOL Energy Center on Thursday night to watch the Penguins play host to the Minnesota Wild.

Schooley and Robert Morris return as the defending Three Rivers Classic champions, and will be joined in this year’s tournament by Penn State, Bowling Green and national-powerhouse and seventh-ranked Boston College.

“To be able to bring Boston College in, they have won three of the last six national championships, you are going to see really good hockey,” Schooley said. “Just for the Penguins this year they have had six players with Boston College ties on their team so it just shows you where their program is going, how good their program is. To bring them into Pittsburgh will be a big coup and to have the fans come out and see them, you are going to see some future NHLers.”

Despite Schooley’s Colonials not getting off to the start they were hoping for, he said the chance to play against top-tier teams is a challenge they look forward to facing.

“We are young. We have 15 freshmen and sophomores,” Schooley added. “We returned three games of experience in goal. But, I really like this hockey team. I like the way they play. They give tremendous effort.

“A lot of these guys played in this tournament, a lot of these guys took a lot of pride in winning and I can tell you that they are going to give it their all to defend it.”

The Three Rivers Classic will take place on Dec. 27-28 at CONSOL Energy Center. On Dec. 27, Bowling Green will play Boston College at 4:30 p.m. and Robert Morris will oppose Penn State at 7:30 p.m. The following day, the consolation and championship games will be held at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available at www.ticketmaster.com.
