The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Brian Gibbons from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Gibbons, 25, is in his second stint of the season with the Penguins. He scored his first NHL goal and added an assist for two points in a 3-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Nov. 18.

The 5-foot-8, 170-pound Gibbons continues to lead the way for WBS offensively this season, posting team highs with 18 assists and 27 points in 23 games played. Gibbons (tied with Jayson Megna) leads the team, and is tied for second in the league, with two shorthanded goals.

A native of Braintree, Massachusetts, Gibbons has appeared in 163 career AHL regular-season games, tallying 28 goals and 59 assists for 87 points. He has added eight points (3G-5A) in 24 playoff contests.

Prior to entering the Penguins’ organization, Gibbons played four seasons of college hockey at Boston College from 2007-11, tallying 164 points (56G-108A) in 160 games. He was a member of two NCAA championship teams (2010, ’08) at BC.

The Penguins have placed forward Jayson Megna on injured reserve.
