Local Player Going to Sochi with U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team
Cheswick native Dan McCoy will be representing Pittsburgh in Sochi.
The longtime Pittsburgh Mighty Penguins member was named to the U.S. Paralympic Team on Wednesday. They will be competing in 2014 Paralympic Winter Games from March 7-16, where McCoy will be looking to help the U.S. squad defend the gold medal they won in 2010.
The 19-year-old Pitt student, who graduated from Fox Chapel High School, has been involved with USA Hockey since 2008-09 – his first season with the U.S. National Developmental Sled Hockey Team. McCoy made the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team for the 2010-11 season and was named the team’s Rookie of the Year. Recent career highlights include helping Team USA to a gold medal at the 2012 International Paralympic Committee Ice Sledge World Championship in Hamar, Norway and a silver medal the following year in Goyang City, South Korea.
