Prospect forward Oskar Sundqvist, Pittsburgh’s third-round draft pick (81st overall) in 2012, was one of 26 players invited to Sweden’s national team selection camp to be held Dec. 16-23 in Angelholm, Sweden.

At the camp, Sundqvist will be auditioning for a spot on Sweden’s entry at the 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship, which will be held Dec. 26, 2013-Jan. 5, 2014, in Malmo, Sweden.

The Swedes were silver medalists last year, losing 3-1 to the United States in the gold medal game.

The 6-foot-3, 182-pound Sundqvist is currently playing in Sweden’s top professional league for Skelleftea. Thus far, he has seven points (2G-5A) in 27 regular-season games as one of the league’s youngest players.

Earlier this year, Sundqvist represented Sweden at the Four Nations tournament, scoring once in three games.

Last year the Boden, Sweden native spent a majority of the season playing with Skelleftea’s junior team, collecting a team-high 33 points (17G-16A) in 38 regular-season games. He added five points (3G-2A) in five playoff contests.

Sundqvist also played in 14 games for Skelleftea’s top team, which won the league championship. He notched one goal in 14 appearances.

Sundqvist is the second Penguins prospect invited to his country’s evaluation camp, joining 2012 first-round pick (8th overall) Derrick Pouliot, who will attend Canada’s camp.
