The Penguins have given a local kid the chance to play for his hometown organization.

On Monday, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced that they inked forward C.J. Severyn to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).

The Beaver, Pa. native played for the Pittsburgh Hornets in 2004-05, scoring 80 points. The 2007 seventh-round draft pick of the Calgary Flames then spent two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program before playing four years at Ohio State University.

Severyn, 24, began the 2013-14 campaign with the Orlando Bears of the ECHL. He currently ranks first on the team in goals (6), points (17) and also is tied for the team lead with 11 assists over 19 games. Now a third-year pro, Severn has appeared in 129 ECHL games with Utah and Orland and totaled 33 goals, 43 assists, 289 PIM.
