Penguins goaltending prospect Matt Murray was named OHL Player of the Week on Monday after going 3-0 with a 1.62 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage last week.

Murray, who has the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in first place in the Ontario Hockey League’s West Division, opened the week by stopping 28 of 31 shots in a 5-3 defeat of North Bay on Nov. 5, earning him the game’s No. 3 star.

Two days later, Murray, 19, earned his league-best third shutout of the season by turning aside all 26 shots he faced in a 3-0 blanking of the Owen Sound Attack. He closed out the week by making 32 saves in regulation/overtime and then denying six of seven shootout attempts in a 3-2 win against the Peterborough Petes.

Murray, who was drafted by the Penguins in the third round (83rd overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft, currently owns a 12-2-2 overall record in addition to his league-leading 2.10 goals-against average and .930 save percentage.

Later this month, Murray will be one of 29 players representing Team OHL in the annual SUBWAY Super Series against the Russian National Team.
