Marc-Andre Fleury Named NHL \u2018Second Star\u2019 of the Week

Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was named NHL ‘Second Star’ for the week ending Nov. 3 – the second time this year that he’s been honored with a weekly league award.

Fleury was named ‘Third Star’ of the NHL’s opening week earlier this season.

The NHL leader with 10 wins, Fleury posted a perfect 3-0 record last week, helping the Penguins established a season-high (tied) four-game winning streak that they will carry into Wednesday night’s meeting with the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Fleury stopped 78 of the 83 shots he faced last week (.940 save percentage), including a season-high 37 saves on 39 shots in a 4-2 defeat of the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night at CONSOL Energy Center.

Fleury, who has allowed two or fewer goals in nine of his first 12 starts, denied 20-of-21 Carolina Hurricanes shots in Pittsburgh’s 3-1 win on Oct. 28 before helping the Penguins avenge last season’s postseason loss to the Boston Bruins by making 21 saves in a 3-2 win on Oct. 30.

Thus far, Fleury is 10-2 with a 1.83 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage this season. He began the year by winning each of his first seven starts – the second-longest winning streak at the beginning of the season of his career.
