Sidney Crosby Named NHL ‘Second Star’ of October
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was named NHL ‘Second Star’ for the month of October.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was named NHL ‘Second Star’ for the month of October on Friday afternoon.

Crosby led all NHL players in scoring during the month with 21 points (8G-13A) in 13 games. He tallied at least one point in 11 of 13 contests, including a team-high six multiple-point efforts.

Crosby, who helped the first-place Penguins post a 9-4 record, was twice honored with NHL weekly awards during the month – ‘Third Star’ for the second week of October and ‘Second Star’ the following week.

Crosby opened the season with an eight-game point streak – the longest such stretch of his career at the beginning of a season. Included in that run was his eighth career hat trick in Pittsburgh’s 5-4 come-from-behind win at Tampa Bay on Oct. 12 and a season-high three assists against Edmonton in his next contest on Oct. 15.

Between Oct. 8-19, Crosby had assists in six straight games (10 total), tied with John Tavares for the NHL’s longest streak of the month.
