Penguins Prospect Matt Murray Named to Team OHL Roster for the Canada-Russia SUBWAY Super Series
Penguins goaltending prospect Matt Murray was one of 29 players named to the Team OHL roster for the annual SUBWAY Super Series between Canada and Russia in late November.
Murray, the Penguins’ third-round pick in 2012, leads the OHL in goals-against average (1.98) and save percentage (.934) and has posted an 8-1-2 record for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. He is tied for the league lead with two shutouts.
The SUBWAY Super Series is a six-game exhibition broken down into three two-game mini-series featuring the best players from the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Western Hockey League (WHL) and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) going head-to-head against the Russian National Junior Team.
Murray and Team OHL will compete against the Russians on Nov. 21 and 25 in the middle two games. Team QMJHL will play the Russians in the first two games, with Team WHL competing in the final two contests.
Murray is one of 13 players on the Team OHL roster that is currently slated to play in both games.
The 19-year-old native of Thunder Bay, Ontario signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Penguins earlier this season.
