Penguins Sign Goaltender Tristan Jarry

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed goaltender Tristan Jarry, to a three-year entry-level contract, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Jarry’s contract will begin whenever he turns professional.

Jarry, 18, was Pittsburgh’s top draft pick in the 2013 NHL Draft in June after being selected in the second round (44th overall) following a stellar season with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

The 6-foot-1, 178-pound native of Surrey, British Columbia split netminding duties in Edmonton with Laurent Brossoit in ’12-13. Jarry finished with an 18-7 record in 27 games, posting league-high totals with a 1.61 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage. His six shutouts were tied for fourth-most in the WHL.

Jarry, who will be attending the Penguins’ rookie tournament in London, Ontario later this week, was named Team Cherry ‘Player of the Game’ at the CHL Top Prospects Game last January, stopping all 16 shots he faced in a 3-0 victory.

During the ’11-12 season, Jarry helped the Oil Kings win the WHL playoff championship and earn a berth in the Memorial Cup tournament, posting an 8-2-1 record in 14 regular-season games.

In two seasons with the Oil Kings, Jarry has appeared in 41 career regular-season games, going 26-9-1 with a 2.03 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage.
