Getting to Know: Troy Josephs
TROY JOSEPHS

Position: Center
Size: 5-foot-11, 179 pounds
Birth Date: May 9, 1994
How the Pens Acquired Him: Drafted in 7th round (209th overall) of 2013 NHL Draft
Next Step: Josephs will go to Clarkson University in New York to play college hockey.

Claim to Fame: He joined fellow Penguins prospect Blaine Byron in the World Junior-A Under-19 Challenge, recording one goal and one assist in the challenge for Team Canada East.

2012-13 Season:
Josephs helped lead the St. Michael's Buzzers to the Ontario Junior Hockey League Championship as a second-year player. His 20 playoff points were third on the team, including seven goals over 24 postseason games.

Numbers Never Lie: It is encouraging to see prospects improve their numbers as they develop from year-to-year. Josephs scored 11 goals and added 13 assists in his first OJHL season in 2011-12; then this past year he bumped up those totals to 17 goals and 20 assists. The center also displayed a bit of an edge, increasing from 10 penalty minutes to 64 in his second season.

Pens’ Take: “He plays with a lot of pace, a lot of tempo. He’s a hard-to-play-against center. Tenacious on pucks, hard as an F1 forechecker. We like the grit that he brings. He needs more time to develop his game but he is certainly a guy that fits what we’re looking for." – Randy Sexton, co-director of amateur scouting

Josephs on being drafted by the Penguins:
“It's just crazy. It still really hasn't sunk in yet … The NHL, like everybody thinks, it's definitely a dream come true. It's first class here in Pittsburgh, just the best organization. I'm so proud to be drafted by them and I'm really happy for the opportunity."
