Harrington, Maatta Given Leadership Roles
The WBS Penguins and the Syracuse Crunch are currently tied at 1-1 in their Eastern Conference finals series. Game 3 is slated for Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre.
Harrington and Maatta join WBS after helping their junior team, the London Knights, win their second-straight Ontario Hockey League (OHL) title and a second-consecutive berth in the Memorial Cup tournament.
Both players appeared in all five Memorial Cup games for London, with Harrington notching a goal and an assist and Maatta collecting two helpers.
Harrington, 20, was drafted by the Penguins in the second round (54th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft. He served as London’s captain this season, while notching 19 points (3G-16A) and a plus-21 rating in 50 regular-season games. He had four assists in 17 OHL playoff contests.
Maatta, 18, was the Penguins first-round (22nd overall) selection in the 2012 NHL Draft. He led all Knights blueliners with 38 points (8G-30A) in 57 games. During the postseason he added 14 points (4G-10A) in 21 games.
