Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation Online Auction Raises Over $53,000 for The One Fund Boston Efforts

The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation has raised more than $53,000 for The One Fund Boston to benefit victims of the Boston Marathon tragedy, the foundation announced today.

The money was raised through an online auction of Penguins jerseys from the game against the Boston Bruins on April 20. Each jersey featured a “617” commemorative patch – representing the city of Boston area code.

The One Fund was established by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick to raise funds to assist those families most affected by the tragic events at the Boston Marathon. Immediately after the Fund was created, the Penguins Foundation collaborated with the Boston Bruins Foundation to hold separate auctions benefitting the cause.

Fans across North America supported the initiative with online bids. The auction ran from April 22 through May 13. All proceeds directly benefit The One Fund Boston.
