Recchi, Burke named to Penguins\' All-Time Team

Mark Recchi and Dr. Charles “Chip” Burke will be named to the Pittsburgh Penguins’ All-Time Team in a ceremony before Wednesday’s 7 p.m. game against the Montreal Canadiens at CONSOL Energy Center.

Team owner Mario Lemieux will make a special presentation to Recchi and Burke.

The Penguins’ fourth-round draft pick out of Kamloops in 1988, Recchi scored 154 goals and 385 points in 389 games over three different stints in Pittsburgh. He led the team in scoring in the 1990-91 regular season, recording 40 goals and 113 points in 78 games – then added 10 goals and 34 points in 24 playoff games on Lemieux’s right wing as the Penguins captured their first Stanley Cup. He ranks 11th all-time in goals, 13th in points, and ninth in game-winning goals (22) in Penguins’ history.

Recchi played 1,652 games in a 22-year NHL career with the Penguins, Philadelphia, Montreal, Carolina, Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Boston. He retired in 2011 after registering 577 goals and 956 assists for 1,533 points. He also won Stanley Cups with Carolina and Boston.

Recchi lives in Pittsburgh and is involved with the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite youth hockey program.

Burke began his affiliation with the Penguins in 1983 and served as head team physician for 25 seasons from 1988 through 2012. He was chairman of the NHL Team Physician Society from 2000-02 and worked with Team USA at the 1991 Canada Cup and the 2002 Olympics.

Burke also has been actively involved in local youth hockey for two decades, coaching high school and amateur teams, operating coaching clinics and serving on USA Hockey’s Safety and Protective Equipment Committee. He is currently the Associate Coach-in-Chief of the Mid-Am District for USA Hockey.

Recchi becomes the 16th player named to the Trib Total Media Penguins’ All-Time Team, joining Lemieux, Ron Francis, Paul Coffey, Jaromir Jagr, Kevin Stevens, Tom Barrasso, Rick Kehoe, Jean Pronovost, Larry Murphy, Ulf Samuelsson, Syl Apps, Joe Mullen, Dave Burrows, Les Binkley and Pierre Larouche.
