Thursday, 02.14.2013 / 11:48 AM / News

Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Teddy Blueger of the Minnesota State Mavericks was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) rookie of the week for the week ending Feb. 10 after tallying four points (2G-2A) in a pair of wins over Minnesota-Duluth last weekend.

Blueger, who was drafted by the Penguins in the second round (52nd overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft, scored the game-winning goal on both nights against Minnesota-Duluth – the first two game-winners of his career.

The 6-foot-1, 183-pound forward has come on as of late for the Mavericks, tallying 12 points – including three multiple-point efforts – over his past 13 games. For the season, Blueger has amassed 17 points (5G-12A) in 26 games played.

The 18-year-old Blueger also represented his native Latvia at the 2013 World Junior Championships (WJC) in Ufa, Russia. Blueger played his high school hockey at Shattuck-St. Mary’s in Minnesota – the same prep school Sidney Crosby attended.
