Pittsburgh Penguins

Robert Morris: With a 10-11-3 record, the RMU Women’s team looks to add more consistency to their season. Although the team has struggled as of late, their last six defeats were each by a single goal. The Colonials have battled hard against top competition, showing signs of potential for a strong finish. RMU tied Northeastern, the #7 team in the nation at the time, earlier in the season as well as sweeping conference-leading Mercyhurst in early December. Sophomore forward Rebecca Vint looks to continue her scoring pace, as she sits at second in the conference in scoring with 10 goals and 10 assists in conference play.

Mercyhurst: The Lakers got off to a hot start to their season and never cooled off. After winning 15 of their first 17 games, the team has compiled an overall record of 21-5-1. Their play has also transitioned into conference play, as they sit in first place with a 12-2 record in College Hockey America. “The Lake Show” has received strong individual play from numerous players and boasts multiple scorers in the top five. Junior forward Christine Bestland leads the league in scoring with 35 points in conference tilts (14 goals, 21 assists). Joining her in the top five is Jenna Dingeldein (third place, 19 points), Molly Byrne (fourth place, 18 points) and Emily Janiga (fifth place, 17 points).

Penn State: It has been a challenging season so far for Penn State, as they sit in last place in the CHA (7-19-1 overall, 1-12-1 in conference play). A bright spot for the Nittany Lions has been freshman forward Shannon Yoxheimer. Yoxheimer sits at tenth place in the conference scoring race with 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists). While State has struggled, they are a young team. Currently 17 players on the roster are freshman, setting the program up for the next few years to have an established core, a must for a successful hockey club.
