Wren Blair Dies at 87
Former Penguins executive Wren Blair died Wednesday in Whitby, Ontario at 87 years old, according to NHL.com.
Blair served as the Penguins president and chief operating officer during the 1975-76 and 1976-77 seasons.
Blair also served with various NHL teams as head coach, general manager, player personnel director and scout. He’s mostly noted for signing legendary defenseman Bobby Orr with the Boston Bruins when he was 14-year-old and serving as the first coach and general manager of the expansion franchise Minnesota North Stars in 1967.
