Tangradi\u2019s Hat Trick Lifts WBS Pens Over Bridgeport

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Eric Tangradi’s second career hat trick provided all of the offense for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as the Penguins took down the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 3-1, at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Benn Ferriero and Trevor Smith each added two assists.

A Penguins power play that had just scored twice in their seven previous home games doubled that total in one period thanks to the stick of Tangradi.

Getting a man-advantage 52 seconds after the opening faceoff, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton went ahead less than a minute later when Smith fed the puck to Tangradi, who accepted the pass on the left hash mark and tucked a shot inside the post.

Bridgeport was able to answer back with their first power play of the contest to even the score, 1-1. Stationed on the near post, Nino Niederreiter fed a behind the back pass to the opposite side of the crease that Johan Sundstrom slammed home at 7:50.

The Penguins struck again with less than five minutes remaining in the first during another 5-on-4 advantage. After Sound Tigers goaltender Kevin Poulin stopped Ferriero’s initial shot, Tangradi pounced on the bouncing puck near the right post to knock in the go-ahead goal.

It was at 13:36 mark of the second period that Tangradi completed his hat trick with the team once again on the power play. Defenseman Brian Dumoulin released a waist-high wrist shot from the center blueline that Tangradi redirected past Poulin for his ninth goal of the season.

Getting the start in net for the Penguins was Jeff Zaktoff, who made 19 saves for his fifth victory in six starts. He has allowed just seven goals over that span.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton finished 3-for-5 on the power play and 2-of-3 on the penalty kill. It was the eighth win in ten games for the Penguins since starting the season 0-4-0-0.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins travel to face the Hershey Bears on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7:00 p.m.
