Two Penguins defensive prospects will be shouldering a leadership role with their junior club in the upcoming 2012-13 campaign.

Scott Harrington, 19, was named captain of the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. Teammate and fellow Penguins’ blue line prospect Olli Maatta, 18, will serve as an alternate captain for London (more details).

Harrington, Pittsburgh’s second-round pick (54th overall) of 2011 NHL Draft, was an alternate captain with London during the 2011-12 season. He racked up 26 points (3G-23A) and helped lead the club to the OHL championship and Memorial Cup Final appearance.

Maatta, Pittsburgh’s first-round pick (22nd overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft, played his first season of North American hockey with the Knights in 2011-12. Matta posted five goals and 32 points with a plus-25 in just 58 games. But he contributed five goals and 19 points in 14 playoff games to help London win the OHL Final.

Both players attended Penguins prospect camp in July.
