Pens Elite Wins \'Patriot Challenge\'

The Pittsburgh Penguins Elite bantam team (ages 13-14) won the Patriots Challenge tournament at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. over the weekend.

The Patriots Challenge is dedicated to honoring the heroes and victims of Sept. 11 while raising money for U.S. soldiers overseas.

Penguins Elite, who are presented by Dick's Sporting Goods, went 4-0 and defeated the Connecticut Wolfpack, 6-2, in the championship game.

Ryan Haag scored nine goals for the Penguins while Liam Walsh had 10 points and Cole Edgerton rang up eight points.

The players visited the World Trade Center memorial at Ground Zero during their trip. Also participating in the tournament were the New Jersey Rockets, Team Maryland and the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks.

“This was so much more than a hockey tournament for our team,” said Penguins Elite bantam coach Kevin Quinn. “Our team was able to help the Wounded Warrior Project and visit Ground Zero, which was really special for us. The competition on the ice is secondary; the driving force behind this event is raising money for troops overseas and remembering the victims.”

Members of the Penguins Elite bantam team are Logan Johnson, Joe Dragonjac, Andrew Hachmeister, Tanner Palocsik, Brayden Lange, Mitchell Lewis, Noah Raymundo, Anthony Szurlej, Billy Carr, Cole Edgerton, Cameron Fisher, Trevor Gilliland, Ryan Haag, Matt Krieger, Patrick O’Neal, Dalton Piacitelli, Ryan Quinn, Luke Rosendale and Liam Walsh. Coaches are Kevin Quinn and James Palocsik.
