By: Kelsey Kraus

Dan McCoy, a 5-4 Forward from Cheswick, PA, has recently been qualified to play on the U.S. Paralympics Sled Hockey Team. The 18-year-old graduated from Fox Chapel High School, where he played goalie for the junior varsity lacrosse team in 2008-09, and performed on the Pittsburgh Mighty Penguins Sled Hockey club most of his life. McCoy was also a member of the U.S. National Development Sled Hockey Team from 2008-10. He then took his hockey career to the next level in 2010-11 when he joined the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team, accumulating eight points that season and was awarded Rookie of the Year. McCoy continued his career with Team USA, scoring two goals in the World Sledge Hockey Challenge and playing in all three games against Canada in February’s Sled Series.

Josh Wirt and Nevin Gray from the Pittsburgh Mighty Penguins have also successfully taken the next step in their hockey careers by joining The U.S. National Developmental Sled Hockey Team. In February, The Developmental Team completed a three game exhibition series against Canada, where they finished with a 1-2 record. The U.S. won their first game defeating Canada 3-2; Josh Wirt scored one of the three goals leading the team to victory.
