ROOT SPORTS to Broadcast Four Pittsburgh Penguins Pre-Season Games

ROOT SPORTS™, the exclusive rights holder of Pittsburgh Penguins regional hockey game telecasts, announced today it will produce and distribute in high definition a record four pre-season Penguins games prior to the start of the 2012-13 National Hockey League regular season. The four televised games are set for Sept. 29*, Sept. 30, Oct. 3 and Oct. 5.

Paul Steigerwald, Bob Errey and Dan Potash will return as the in-game voices of Penguins Hockey on ROOT SPORTS. In addition to the game broadcasts, ROOT SPORTS will continue hosting LIVE Pre and Postgame shows before and immediately following every live game telecast.

Along with the Penguins Pre-season television schedule, ROOT SPORTS also announced today the addition of award winning hockey director, John Szpala, as the new Director of Penguins broadcasts on ROOT SPORTS starting this fall. Before coming to Pittsburgh, Szpala, a native of Brantford, Ontario, spent 16 years directing Hockey Night in Canada, as well as directing the Ottawa Senators games on Rogers Sportsnet. Combined with his previous directing experience and his involvement directing both Men’s and Women’s Hockey during the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics, Szpala brings an impressive 32 years of directing experience to ROOT SPORTS.
