Penguins Sign Forward Tanner Glass

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Tanner Glass to a two-year contract, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero. (Glass Photo Gallery)

The deal runs through the 2013-14 campaign, and has an average annual value of $1.1 million.

Glass, 28, is coming off a career year in 2011-12 with the Winnipeg Jets, establishing personal highs across the board with 78 games played, five goals, 11 assists and 16 points. Glass led the Jets and ranked 10th in the NHL with a career-high 246 hits. His 51 blocked shots ranked second among Winnipeg forwards, while his 1:46 average shorthanded minutes per game placed fourth.

Prior to joining the Jets last season, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound Glass spent the previous two seasons with Vancouver, helping the Canucks reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2010-11.

A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Glass has played five NHL seasons with Florida, Vancouver and Winnipeg, tallying 13 goals, 26 assists, 39 points and 306 penalty minutes in 262 regular-season games. Glass has also appeared in 24 career postseason contests.

Originally drafted by Florida in the ninth round (265th overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft, Glass played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Dartmouth of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) between 2003-07, serving as team captain during his senior season. Glass appeared in 124 career games with Dartmouth, totaling 31 goals, 51 assists and 82 points.
