Skate with Iceburgh and Meet Penguins Alumni This Weekend at Point \u201CSkate\u201D Park

No need to rub your eyes in disbelief. Spectators at this year’s Regatta will literally be ice skating—in shorts, tank-tops or whatever other summer garb grabs them—at the festival’s first ever artificial ice rink.

Built by one of the leading suppliers of synthetic ice surfaces in the country, Artificial Ice Events—founded by speed skater Michael Gallant—and sponsored by UPMC, kids and adults of every age and skill set can “take to the ice” daily if they want... all FREE. Don’t have skates? No problem, FREE skate rental will be available.

Join the Pittsburgh Penguins mascot Iceburgh on the rink Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1 from 1-2 pm. Pittsburgh Penguins alumni Pierre Larouche will be on hand Saturday from 2-3 pm to sign autographs. Two-time Stanley Cup champion Phil Bourque will be available for autographs on Sunday from 2-3 pm.

Because of the rink’s size—40’ x 100’—skating will be offered in timed sessions, with a limited number of skaters allowed on the surface each period, to keep the experience as free-flowing and pleasurable as possible each time.

So sharpen your blades, practice your figure eights and pirouettes, perfect your Salchows and camel spins...

Or just stride along and loop the rink over and over—hockey fans no “checking” please—as we turn the asphalt drive on the fountain side of the park into a “cool way” to skate your day!
