Defenseman Cody Ceci has been one of the fastest risers on many draft boards throughout the season, cracking the top-10 in NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings after receiving a midterm ranking of 16 earlier in the year. The offensive-minded defenseman completed his third season in the Ontario Hockey League second among blueliners in points with 60 (17G-43A), a 26-point improvement from the previous season (9G-25A). Ceci continued his standout play during the Ottawa 67’s run in the OHL playoffs, finishing fourth among defensemen in points (2G-13A-15P). A towering presence on the ice, many scouts believe Ceci obtains one of the better shots from the point, evident by his eight power-play tallies during the 2011-12 season.

"Ceci musters healthy levels of speed and marries it with strong puck-protection skills. He has impressive range and can move swiftly in a lateral direction, which helps him defend. … Ceci possesses all the tools that NHL teams covet in a defenseman including size, skating ability, an offensive game and, most importantly, he can keep the game simple enough.”
-McKeen’s Hockey

Internationally, Ceci represented Canada at the 2011 World Under-18 Championship and won silver with Team Ontario at the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. He also was one of five 2012 draft-eligible players invited to Canada’s World Junior selection camp for the 2012 tournament.

He led Ottawa’s defensemen with nine goals and ranked second among the team’s blueliners with 34 points during his sophomore season in 2010-11. His 34 points were almost triple his production in 2009-10 (12 points).

His father, Parri, was named the MVP of the 1984 Vanier Cup and was inducted into the University of Guelph Hall of Fame in 1994. A receiver, he played one season with the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League before an injury ended his career.

Ceci played most of his minor hockey with Cumberland and his mother, Karen, a former competitive figure skater, taught him to skate.
