2000 - 1st round - 18th overall

Defenseman Brooks Orpik has made a name for himself with his devastating highlight-reel hits and textbook defensive style during his 8-plus seasons with the Penguins. “Brooksy” became a mainstay with Pittsburgh during the 2003-04 season, displaying a tough, physical presence on the blue line for much of his rookie campaign, accumulating a career-high 127 penalty minutes.

One of the team’s alternate captains, Orpik was a key member for the Penguins throughout their deep playoff run in 2008 and their Stanley Cup title in 2009, providing the Pens’ blueliners with veteran stability, depth and toughness. Orpik anchored the NHL’s top PK unit, killing off 86.1 percent of the opponent’s power-play opportunities in 2010-11. This past season, Orpik and the Penguins PK unit killed off a franchise record 87.8 percent of their penalties.

The stay-at-home defenseman has twice been recognized as the Penguins Defensive Player of the Year (2010, 2011). Orpik is consistently at the top of the NHL’s leaderboard for hits, having laid out 200 hits in five of his 8-plus seasons, including a career-high 309 hits in 2008-09. On Feb. 11, 2011 against the New York Islanders, Brooksy became only the third defenseman in franchise history to appear in 500 career games. Through 585 career games, Orpik has 111 points (11G-100A) in a Pittsburgh uniform.
