Malkin Wins Gold at World Championship
What an incredible showing for Penguins center Evgeni Malkin at the 2012 IIHF World Championship.

Malkin was named tournament MVP and Best Forward as Russia went a perfect 10-0 to win the Gold Medal Game over Slovakia on Sunday afternoon in Helsinki, Finland. They became the first champions to win all their games in regulation since the 1989 Soviets, who also won 10 straight.

Malkin was also named to the tournament All-Star Team for the third time after 2007 and 2010.

Malkin tallied in Sunday's 6-2 victory to give him at least one point in all 10 of Russia’s games. Malkin won the tournament scoring title with 11 goals and 19 points, making him just the second player after Wayne Gretzky (1981-82) to win the scoring title in both the NHL and World Championship in the same season. Malkin's 19 points is a new Team Russia record for World Championship scoring.

This is Malkin’s first gold medal at the World Championship, his fourth appearance in the tournament (2006, ’07, ’10, '12). He has also represented Russia in the 2010 Winter Olympics, the World Junior Championships (2004, ’05, ’06) and the World Under-18 Championships (2003, ’04).
