Crosby Skates in Florida

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby skated following the team’s morning skate at BankAtlantic Center. It was the first time he’s hit the ice since suffering from concussion-like symptoms in early December.

“I feel pretty good,” said Crosby, who has not been cleared to play. “It’s nice to get back out there for the first time. I’m taking it in stride, but it’s nice to get back out there.”

Crosby did say that he isn’t symptom free, but that the “symptoms have gotten a lot better. I’m allowed to lightly exert. That’s positive. The symptoms are better and it’s nice to get that step out on the ice. We’ll see how it goes.”

Crosby, who was told by doctors a couple days ago that he could start skating today, said the movements have given him the most difficulty, but his prior experience will help in dealing with it.

“That’ll be the real test. The motion stuff has kind of been the issue, both the time before and now going through it for a bit now,” he said. “The good thing is that I have a pretty good handle on it and I’m always able to improve that. That was a big help in August when I went to Atlanta. So I know I can handle that if I need to and if it comes to that.”

Crosby also addressed recent rumors circulating in the media about the team questioning whether he is able to play (the team answered that question with a showing of solidarity at practice).

“It’s tough to even answer it because it’s so far-fetched,” he said. “I would say that I’m not surprised that it’s when we’ve lost five or six in a row. If we would have won five in a row, I don’t think any of that stuff would have started.

“I’ve been around hockey long enough to know that this stuff seems to come out when you’re losing. So as long as guys don’t get caught up in it, I think we’re much better off not even listening to it. … It’s not even really worth talking about.”
