Penguins Honor McDowell High School Graduate with 2011 Bob Johnson Memorial Scholarship
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Penguins have awarded the 2011 Bob Johnson Memorial Scholarship to McDowell High School graduate Jeffrey Clark.  The scholarship, valued at $5,000, is co-sponsored by the Pittsburgh Penguins Booster Club.

The Johnson scholarship was created in 1992 and is presented annually to a western Pennsylvania high school senior for academic excellence, community service and for providing leadership, sportsmanship and a positive attitude as a member of their school’s hockey program.  Students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 to qualify for the scholarship.

Clark played defense on his varsity hockey team for four years and served as assistant captain during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.  During his high school hockey career, Clark was awarded the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) Bob Johnson Character Award, was voted to the PIHL All Star Game in 2011 and was PIHL Player of the Month in February 2011.

Apart from his success on the ice, Clark also excelled academically.  An honor student, Clark made Honor Roll every semester and maintained well above a 3.5 grade point average throughout his high school career.

In addition, Clark demonstrated a multi-year commitment to youth hockey as he mentored groups of beginner hockey players for the Erie Youth Hockey Association, volunteered for Mercyhurst College Hockey Camp coaching players of various skill levels and represented McDowell Hockey by speaking at area middle schools by mentoring and promoting the sport.

He is the son of Roger and Mary Jane Clark of Erie, PA.  He attends the University of Pittsburgh where he majors in Industrial Engineering and is a member of the Panthers’ Men’s Division I hockey team.
