One Lucky Fan

The Pittsburgh Penguins organization celebrated a unique milestone tonight at CONSOL Energy Center when they recognized their 25,000,000th fan.

Coming into tonight’s game, Pittsburgh has brought in 24,983,853 fans in both the regular season and playoffs combined since their first season in 1967.

Using bar code technology, the Penguins were able to determine that Tom Mimidis of Charleroi, PA was the 16,147th fan through the gates Wednesday.

So in his first ever game at CONSOL Energy Center, Mimidis got an early Christmas present as he was that momentous 25,000,000th  fan.

“I was sitting in the seat and they said ‘Hey, congratulations, you’re the fan.’ I didn’t know,” Mimidis jokingly said. “They upgraded my seats to box seats.”

Some of the other perks of being honored as the 25,000,000th fan to ever walk through the turnstiles in Penguins history include a road trip to a future Penguins game and an autographed Sidney Crosby jersey.

Mimidis – who has been a Penguins fan since owner and legend Mario Lemieux was first drafted in 1984 – seemed in joyous disbelief with the second period announcement.

“I’m in shock,” he admitted.

It wasn’t just Mimidis who left tonight’s game with some extra benefits as all fans received coupons for a free cup of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, free skate rental at Penguins Pond at SouthSide Works presented by Highmark, and 25 percent off one purchase at the PensGear store at SouthSide Works.
