Since 1992, the Pittsburgh Penguins have hosted an annual blood drive in an effort to save lives. This team tradition has netted more than 13,931 units of blood which has served 41,793 patients in the past 19 years.
For the second consecutive year, the Penguins and American Red Cross have partnered to hold a blood drive at CONSOL Energy Center on Sunday, October 23 from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm.
In addition to helping to save lives, blood donors will receive a jersey-style Jordan Staal t-shirt, while supplies last, and are eligible to win Penguins memorabilia. Donors will also have the opportunity to meet Penguins Alumni members and broadcasters, as well as interact with Penguins mascot Iceburgh and American Red Cross mascot the Blood Hound.
All donors must schedule an appointment in advance by telephone at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or online at redcrossblood.org/Penguins.
Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in Pennsylvania), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements. Individuals should bring their Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when coming to donate.
Complimentary parking is available in the South Lot or East Lot of CONSOL Energy Center. Donors will enter CONSOL Energy Center at the Verizon Gate on Centre Avenue.
We hope that Penguins fans will help make this October’s collection the best yet and encourage fans to participate!
