Q&A: Joseph Morrow

What did you think of your first NHL game?
It was a lot of fun for me, getting into a game like that, my first NHL game. It was really exciting to play in front of that many people too and have my family in the stands. It’s something I’ll remember for a long time.

How hard was it adapting to the NHL level pace?
You have split-second decisions. In Juniors you have a second or two to think and make the right play, but here if you think about you’re going to do then it’s usually too late to do it. That’s the main thing I noticed.

How much did having Kris Letang as your partner help in the game?
I don’t think I would have played as well without him as my D partner. He communicated with me throughout the entire game and showed me the right path and everything. He was a good mentor to have out there. I really appreciate them putting me with him.

How are you adapting to the players in the room on this team?
Everyone is older. They have different lifestyles than you would have in Juniors. The guys are a lot more mature. I’ve grown to be pretty comfortable with the situation and everything. It’s not out of the ordinary any more.

What advice have they given you about your time here in camp?
It’s a little easier getting to the top than it is staying at the top. Guys are fighting for spots here everyday. Young guys are coming up trying to take their position. They just taught me you only live once, give it everything you’ve got while you’re here and enjoy the time you spend here.

What goals do you have for the rest of camp?
I just want to play in as many exhibition games as I can here and stay as long as I can. I’m grateful for everyday I spend here. It’s like a gift to me. I’m having the time of my life and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
